THE JOURNEY OF THE SACKETT'S
400 Years of Shaping America
The Beginning
1630 Arrival
In 1630, Simon Sackett, the first American Sackett, sailed to the Massachusetts Bay Colony aboard the ship Lyon, arriving in Boston around December 1, 1630. As part of the Great Migration, Simon and his family were ordinary people with extraordinary determination — clearing land, raising families, and laying the foundation for a new nation. His descendants spread across New England, embodying the pioneer spirit that would define generations.
Revolutionary Spirit
Birth of a Nation
During the American Revolution, Nathaniel Sackett (1737–1805) played a pivotal role in helping George Washington win the war. As the head of the first official American spy ring, Nathaniel gathered critical intelligence that shaped key victories — helping secure independence in 1776. His quiet courage and cunning wit laid the groundwork for the nation we know today.
Cultural Icon
Christmas Spirit
Clement C. Moore (cousin, 1779–1863): A Sackett descendant who authored "A Visit from St. Nicholas" (better known as "'Twas the Night Before Christmas"). His cousin, a Sackett, submitted the poem to the Troy Sentinel newspaper in 1823, forever shaping American Christmas tradition. (This poem was the first to establish the lore of Santa Claus that we love and cherish today.)
Industrial Innovation
Building the future
Augustine Sackett (1841-1914) pioneered Sackett Board, an early version of modern drywall that revolutionized home construction across America. His invention made homes more durable, efficient, and accessible — a testament to the Sackett family's ongoing drive to build better.
Civil War Hero & Western Inspiration
The Code of the West
Col. D.B. Sackett (1822-1885), a brave Union soldier in the Civil War, embodied courage and frontier spirit. His heroism inspired Louis L'Amour's iconic Sackett novels — later adapted into films featuring the very first Cowboy roles for Sam Elliott and Tom Selleck. His legacy lives on in the rugged, heroic Western archetype.
Sackett Ranch
The Story Continues
Today, Jon Sackett carries the torch forward. As a direct descendant of these pioneers, Jon founded Sackett Ranch — not as a physical ranch, but as a modern brand that embodies the same American spirit, grit, and unbreakable determination that defined his ancestors' lives on the land.
While many Sacketts throughout history owned farms and ranches, building communities and taming the frontier, Sackett Ranch today stands as a celebration of that legacy: every tee, hat, and accessory is truly Made in the USA — cut, sewn, and crafted with the same integrity that built this nation.
The Sackett in our name honors the family lineage and the relentless spirit that shaped America. The Ranch in our name represents the inspiration for all of us — to own a piece of that American Dream, to live with purpose, pride, and resilience, no matter where life takes us.
